#WeAreOrlando

About 700 people attended a #‎WeAreOrlando vigil held at Hong Lim Park, Singapore, on the evening of 14th June 2016 to remember the Orlando shooting victims.

49 people were killed in the worst mass shooting in American history at Pulse, a gay nightclub, by a gunman claiming to be a follower of the Islamic State. The names of the victims were read out after a speech by organiser Nicholas Lim.

Initially planned as a candlelight vigil, it was later changed to using glow sticks and electric candles, due to restrictions by NParks on the use of open fire.

Only Singaporeans and permanent residents were allowed to participate in the event, as non-Singaporeans were required to apply for police permits in order to organise or participate in any of these activities.

Foreigners who turned up to show their support watched on from the footpath. For some, it was a struggle to hold back the tears.
